EMERGENCY MANIPULATION TOOLS
Emergency Manipulation Tools for Flow Control Valve
PROJECT
A major international energy services provider deployed DTI’s PermaSeal Connectors and Self Aligning Connectors as part of Coiled Tubing (CT) gas lift completions with multiple gas lift stations.
The campaign successfully restarted production in previously shut-in wells in Pakistan. A major service company approached DTI for an Engineered solution to assist with completions containing malfunctioning flow control valves. The valves were stuck closed preventing water injection into the reservoir and needed to be opened urgently to prevent a regulatory reduction in production and associated financial impact. A no-go Profile Nipple above the flow control valve restricted access to the flow control valves making manipulation tool design challenging.
RESULTS
In close collaboration with the service provider DTI designed, manufactured and tested two customised tools in 6 weeks. Service company personnel visited DTI to function test the tools inside a flow control valve.
A slickline manipulation tool could locate inside the valve, manipulate the valve open and then dimple the moving sleeve to hold the valve in the open position. A second e-line locating tool could be used to locate a modified perforating gun inside the open valve and deform the valve sufficiently to hold it open.
The solutions enabled the service provider to resolve the immediate issue and the speed of response and solution quality was very well received by the operator.
